Black and Minority Ethnic Initiatives for Green and Healthy London Neighbourhoods
Filed under: Community Action & Campaigns
From 2005 to 2008 London 21 ran an exciting pilot programme to engage London's 2 million BME population into the sustainability and environmental issues of London.
The 3-year programme involved a number of features to engage London's multi-ethnic communities into the environmental mainstream, and build confidence, awareness and capacity for London's unengaged communities to play and equal and cohesive role in its environmental sustainability.
Following its launch in March 2005, London 21's BME community action programme reached an important landmark with its first London-wide event. On 10th June 2005, the London Multi-cultural Environmental Fair brought together community groups, activists, environmentalists and public sector decision-makers. Further fairs in 2006, 2007 and 2008 have all been met with great success.
